The cultural activities offered by the “Centro de Idiomas Tenerife” are an opportunity for students of all our courses to participate in periodic extracurricular events as a complement to their training. Such events contribute to the real-life practice of the language and their linguistic immersion through a recreational and cultural component.
Our activities program offers some of the best tourist attractions of the island of Tenerife at a historical-cultural, natural, entertainment and, of course, gastronomic level. For this reason, our excursions are characterized by the fusion of knowledge and enjoyment of culture with gastronomy. In this way, we have selected the best routes and restaurants to make these experiences unforgettable for our students. The trips will last 4-6 hours, depending on the distance and transfer to the place or the time necessary to make each visit.
These activities are not only for our students, but we also offer them to friends or family who are interested in joining us. The registration or booking is always available in advance.
Please note that the extra-academic activities offered to our students during the course are not compulsory. Each student can decide which activity they want to participate in and register for it in advance. The price will depend on the type of each activity and the components (transportation costs, food, tickets to events or places, etc.).
Visit to the Casa Lercaro in San Cristóbal de La Laguna
La Casa Lercaro is the headquarters of the Museum of History and Anthropology of Tenerife (MHA) and is located in the historic centre of La Laguna (declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999).
It is a historical monument -and an outstanding example of traditional civil architecture in the Canary Islands- from the late 16th century that belonged to a Genovese merchant family, known as the Lercaros, who settled on the island after the Conquest.
We will visit this interesting museum to learn about the institutional, economic, social and cultural development of the island from the 15th to the 20th centuries. In addition, visitors will also be able to learn about the legends and mysteries that the house holds.
Afterwards, we will walk through the streets of the city until we reach Tasca El Obispado, located in one of the city’s most symbolic and attractive streets featuring houses with colourful facades and a variety of shops. The tavern is located in one of these rustic-looking houses with stone walls, and there we can finish the day tasting its meats (specialty) and its Mediterranean cuisine made with high-quality products.
Visit to the old town of San Miguel de Abona and Casa de El Capitán
We will start the visit from the village church, guided through the itinerary by the different information panels in which, through QR codes, we can access the videos of the historical sights.
The tour will take us to the El Capitán House Museum. This house was built by the Alfonso family who used it as a residence in the late nineteenth century. The name of the house comes from one of the family’s descendants, Don Miguel Alfonso Martínez (born 1780), who was known as “the captain” for his high military position at that time.
The house, built in the first decades of the 19th century, is a traditional Canarian house, typical of the wealthy class, with a beautiful interior patio and a semi-basement with a cellar. It was restored as a museum of traditional arts after the fire it suffered in 1978.
We will take a guided tour of the museum to see its outbuildings and rooms dedicated to pottery, the history of the house and the municipality, the history of wine and its local cultivation, the history of the camel and the camel driver’s profession and temporary exhibitions or other events on traditional crafts.
Then, we will finish the activity in the Bodega de San Miguel restaurant, in a traditional Canarian style, where we can taste its variety of dishes of typical food and local wines.
Visit to the Monje Winery in El Sauzal
Bodegas Monje offers its visitors spectacular views of the sea and the mountains from its terrace. Its infrastructure combines the traditional and modern styles and invites you to the winery and / or its exquisite restaurant.
We will visit the winery, surrounded by vineyards and with a fantastic panoramic view of the north of the island of Tenerife and its different and innovative facilities -such as its cultural space dedicated to holding events where wine and art are the protagonists-, and then do the tasting of their wines.
Finally, we will enjoy the modern cuisine of the restaurant and the variety of wines from its own vineyards.
Visit to the Museum of Nature and Archaeology of Santa Cruz de Tenerife
The Museum of Nature and Archaeology is located in an outstanding building in the capital of Tenerife: in the old Civil Hospital of Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados (1745). As part of its reconstruction at the end of the 19th century, its facade was remodelled in a striking neoclassical style. Near the museum there are several of the most important buildings in the city and its historic centre.
The comprehensive rehabilitation of this great building has been carried out in different stages, mainly from the 1990s to the first years of the 21st century.
The museum, commonly known as the Museum of Nature and Man, is today a modern space dedicated to knowledge, transmission and enhancement of the important archaeological and natural heritage of the Canary Islands.
During our visit, we will access its permanent collection, the rooms dedicated to temporary exhibitions and other complementary areas. Visitors can enjoy a tour of the renovated facilities and experience first-hand the natural and archaeological history of the islands.
After visiting the building and its museum, we will go to one of the most dynamic and popular areas of the city – Calle de la Noria. This street, which is located just in front of the museum on the other side of the Barranco de Santos, is one of the most charming roads in the urban area of Santa Cruz. There we will finish our itinerary accessing one of the most fashionable gastronomic places in the city, known as El Porrón. It is an Andalusian tavern decorated inside with elements from Spain and / or Andalusia and which has a large terrace ideal for chilling-out and trying its typical tapas accompanied by a beer or a glass of wine.
Visit to Tenerife Space of the Arts (TEA) in Santa Cruz de Tenerife
This is another of our planned visits to the island capital. Next to the Museum of Nature and Archaeology and the market Our Lady of Africa, is Tenerife Space for the Arts. The TEA is more than a museum of contemporary art. Its avant-garde design architecture, designed by the studio of Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, is itself an important reason to see and visit it.
In this extraordinary concrete building we will be able to take a tour of its different rooms dedicated to periodic temporary exhibitions on painting, photography, video art, etc. In addition, we will get to know its other spaces, such as the projection room, the library or the museum store. The museum can be visited for free or, if preferred, we could take a guided tour accompanied by centre staff with explanations about the building and its collections featuring its photography collection, as well as the painting collection by contemporary Canarian artists, where the surrealist painter from Tenerife Óscar Domínguez is its main reference.
After visiting the museum and its facilities, we will move to the city centre to go to one of the best avant-garde and Latin American food restaurants in the city. The Amor de Mis Amores Restaurant is characterized by its fusion cuisine, which highlights its interpretations of traditional Peruvian food. There we will enjoy the tasting of its most characteristic dishes, in a familiar and cozy environment.
Visit to the Tenerife Auditorium
The Tenerife Auditorium, located in the port area of Santa Cruz, is one of its most iconic buildings which has become a symbol of the city. It is an avant-garde style construction, in which its architect, Santiago Calatrava, developed a modern expressionist-style concrete structure. Since its inauguration in 2003, its facilities have hosted a select program of world-class musical events.
During our visit, we will access this imposing architectural monument to appreciate its shapes and dimensions from within, and then attend one of its operatic or orchestral shows.
Once the concert or musical performance is over, we will visit the exterior of the auditorium to relax and dine in a perfect and exclusive atmosphere on the terrace of the Buddhabar Tenerife Restaurant. In its Chill Out environment, we will enjoy its Asian and international fusion cuisine and the views of the lit-up auditorium to end the night and visit the capital of Tenerife.
Visit to the Cueva del Viento in Icod de los Vinos
The Cueva del Viento is a volcanic cavity in Icod de los Vinos that was rediscovered in 1969 and has been studied and preserved since then. It is a volcanic tube formed 27,000 years ago from the lava from the eruption of Pico Viejo, located next to Mount Teide.
This volcanic tube is the fifth longest in the world with its 18 surveyed kilometers (the longest one can be found in Hawaii, United States).
During our visit, we will access the interior of the cave, accompanied by an expert guide who will tell us about its discovery, its most important geomorphic characteristics, its surroundings and other information related to fauna and underground vegetation (those that survive in the current conditions and those that existed and have disappeared).
Before entering this Special Natural Reserve we will be received at the visitor centre for explanations and advance instructions.
After carrying out this fascinating speleological activity, we will proceed to the Terrazas del Sauzal to enjoy its beautiful panoramic views of Mount Teide and the north of the island. In this special outdoor setting, surrounded by gardens and overlooking the sea, we can taste some of its Mediterranean dishes.
Visit to Teide National Park
Mount Teide is the most symbolic place in Tenerife. In 2007 it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its complete preservation of vegetation and its unique volcanic characteristics.
Teide National Park is located in the centre of the island with an average altitude of 2,000 meters. Its peak of 3,718 meters makes it the highest mountain in Spain. It is also the national park that receives the most visitors in Spain and Europe, with more than three million tourists a year.
On our visit to Teide we will have the opportunity to experience its unique landscapes from different viewpoints, including enjoying the views from the top of the volcano, which we will access through the cable car service to ascend and descend.
After the visit to the National Park, on the way back to the south of the island, we will make a stop at El Chamo Restaurant, located in the municipality of Vilaflor, where we can try their specialty – grilled meats.
Visit to Masca
Masca is located in the Teno Rural Park, in a spectacular setting surrounded by mountains and ravines covered with vegetation that accentuate the beauty of the place. Located in the middle of a valley and on top of a hill, it also offers the opportunity to observe the Atlantic Ocean from a privileged position.
We will stroll through the small town or hamlet of Masca, whose rustic and simple houses with elements of traditional architecture are spread across a steep and rocky landscape that make it a place full of magic and charm.
This unique and picturesque environment, formerly populated by the Guanche aborigines and which could have been a strategic refuge or hideout for pirates, will allow us to connect directly with the purest nature and to make us feel free from the most urban and developed spaces to which we are used in our day to day.
At the end of the day, we will visit the La Fuente Restaurant, located within the town of Masca, where we can explore its craft shop and enjoy stunning views from its terrace whilst sampling some of its typical Canarian food dishes.
Visit to Punta de Teno
La Punta de Teno is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful natural spaces in Tenerife. It is located in an isolated area of the island, away from the most populated and developed places. That is why it is a place of great ecological and cultural experience and importance. It is the westernmost point of the island and its landscape surprises with its complicated orography featuring ravines that end in small beaches, impressive cliffs, valleys and areas with autochthonous vegetation (laurisilva, tabaibas, cardones, …) and small traditional farmhouses. With luck we will be able to encounter and admire some of the threatened species that make up its fauna, in an area that is declared a protected space.
During our visit, we will access the lighthouse area to walk through this fabulous coastal environment, take photos and enjoy its tranquillity. From there, we can admire the sunset and then move on to El Burgado Restaurant. This restaurant is in an ideal environment, with a terrace located right on the beachfront and offering fantastic views of Punta de Teno and its lighthouse. It will be the perfect time to try some of the dishes from the extensive menu of traditional Canarian food, which highlights its specialty in fresh fish and seafood.
Departure on a yacht for whale and dolphin watching.
We have scheduled a trip to the sea, with exclusive access to one of the best and largest yachts on the island. The Tigresa Yacht offers its passengers a unique experience in which they can enjoy great views of the islands from the sea, observe the passage of cetaceans, swim in the ocean or practice sport fishing, all exercised under the highest level of security measures and offering maximum comfort. In addition, on board the yacht and during the tour along the southwest coast, we will have food and drinks included.
